Abstract

Background: Osteoarthritis (OA) is the most prevalent kind of joint illness, leading to significant suffering and impairment.
Objectives: to detect a relationship among (quadriceps angles) Q-angle & radiological, clinical, and ultrasonography results in cases with primary knee OA.
Patients and methods; this hospital-based cross-sectional research was done at the outpatient clinic of the department of physical medicine, rheumatology, and rehabilitation at Qena University Hospitals. The study was conducted on 200 patients with OA aged 6 to 12 months. Two-hundred cases between 40 and 75 years; participants with knee OA were divided into LQ and HQ groups (LQ-angle <15° and HQ-angle ≥15°, respectively) based on their symptomatic knees. A visual analog scale and the Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Arthritis Index were utilized to clinically evaluate cases' levels of pain and function. Knee X-rays were assessed utilizing the Kellgren-Lawrence OA Scoring System.
Results: The mean total WOMAC score was 62.17 ± 12.35. The mean Q-angle was 18.54 ± 2.2. There is a significant positive association among Q-angle and disease duration and between K-L and US grading. Meanwhile, there is a significant negative association between Q-angle and WOMAC.
Conclusion: The association between knee cartilage thickness and Q-angle can be assessed by US without utilizing a radiographic technique. There is a significant positive association between Q-angle and disease duration and K-L and US grading. Meanwhile, there is a significant negative association among Q-angle & WOMAC.
